Advocating For The Child's Best Interest Is Our Only Interest

The Guardian ad Litem Program is able to represent thousands of Florida children with the help of volunteers.  Program volunteers donate countless hours to the children they represent.  The unique perspectives of volunteers, and their often creative solutions, are highly valued by the dependency court judges.

The Guardian ad Litem Program is a group of people (Volunteers and Staff) who care about children. Guardians ad Litem (GALs) are volunteers, who are appointed by the Court to advocate – speak up – for the best interest of a child who has been abused, neglected, or abandoned. The majority of these children have been removed from their homes and placed with relatives or foster parents.

In Hillsborough County alone, there are over 2,500 children in the dependency court system. There are currently over 1,000 children who do NOT have a GAL to represent their best interest!  It only takes between 12 and 15 hours per month to volunteer and “Be the Voice” for a child.
