VOLUNTEER YOUR VOICE

Volunteer Guardians ad Litem undergo comprehensive training to learn how to observe children, parents, and foster families. Their objective recommendations are critical to a judge’s analysis and final ruling on the fate of a child. The Guardian ad Litem Office provides all of the necessary training and support for its local volunteers. Guardian ad Litem Hillsborough County is supported by Voices for Children of Tampa Bay in its efforts to recruit and train volunteers and to provide simple necessities that other families might take for granted – such as new shoes, clothing, and school supplies. VFC functions as a charity for children in the court systems of Hillsborough County.

As a Guardian ad Litem, you are asked to:

ADVOCATE

Speak up for the child by making recommendations for the child’s best interests.

MONITOR

Track the compliance of the Court’s orders and report that compliance to the court.

INVESTIGATE

Objectively examine the situation by speaking with case-related people and by gathering records.

FACILITATE

Identify resources and services for the child to meet his or her specific needs.

Our volunteers average 10-15 hours per month; however, this time fluctuates depending on what is happening with your particular case.

BENEFITS OF VOLUNTEERING

As the quality of the child’s life improves, they have a greater chance of becoming a well-respected, productive member of your community.

Children are desperately seeking stable relationships in their lives. Your presence can help guide a child through their current difficult circumstances and into a successful future.

A free, comprehensive training course is provided for all volunteers, to help prepare them for their future encounters with the court system.

You don’t have to be a lawyer to volunteer to be a Guardian ad Litem, but you’ll learn to think like one. Your training includes a crash course on the justice system.

All volunteers are backed by our knowledgeable Program Staff, Child Advocate Managers, Master Guardians, and Best Interest Attorneys.

There are hundreds of children without a GAL volunteer to help them through the system. Your support is greatly needed and appreciated.
