Volunteer Guardians ad Litem undergo comprehensive training to learn how to observe children, parents, and foster families. Their objective recommendations are critical to a judge’s analysis and final ruling on the fate of a child. The Guardian ad Litem Office provides all of the necessary training and support for its local volunteers. The children that we represent are directly supported by Voices for Children of Tampa Bay to provide simple necessities that other families might take for granted – such as new shoes, clothing, and school supplies.
As a Guardian ad Litem, you are asked to:

ADVOCATE
Speak up for the child by making recommendations for the child’s best interests.

MONITOR
Track the compliance of the Court’s orders and report that compliance to the court.

INVESTIGATE
Objectively examine the situation by speaking with case-related people and by gathering records.

FACILITATE
Identify resources and services for the child to meet his or her specific needs.
Our volunteers average 10-15 hours per month; however, this time fluctuates depending on what is happening with your particular case.
As the quality of the child’s life improves, they have a greater chance of becoming a well-respected, productive member of your community.
Children are desperately seeking stable relationships in their lives. Your presence can help guide a child through their current difficult circumstances and into a successful future.
A free, comprehensive training course is provided for all volunteers, to help prepare them for their future encounters with the court system.
You don’t have to be a lawyer to volunteer to be a Guardian ad Litem, but you’ll learn to think like one. Your training includes a crash course on the justice system.
All volunteers are backed by our knowledgeable Guardian ad Litem Attorneys and Certified Child Advocate Managers,
There are hundreds of children without a Guardian ad Litem volunteer to help them through the system. Your support is greatly needed and appreciated.
There are many exciting events happening this month at Guardian ad Litem. Check our calendar and see what’s in store for you.
